Personal:

I have been running every sense I started middle school at Orem Jr. high then went on to high school at Mountain View.  In college I ran one semester at BYU-HAWAII then went on a LDS Mission to Portland, Oregon.  After the mission I went to SUU and then after college I thought I could become a sponsored triathlete but I swam like a brick.  Finally after two years of trying to be an elite triathlete I found my love for running again and am putting all my training into half marathons and marathons.  I have just started volunteering at my old high school as an assistant coach and loving it.  Go Bruins!!!

Felt Strong at the beginning of the run again and then realized after 12 mins I better slow down or I would be paying for it at the end. Legs feel strong and healthy but my left foot is bothering me hopefully its nothing to serious. Time to play DR. and diagnose my self. A run always feels good when you get 9hrs of sleep. The only thing that would have made this run better would be to have somebody to run with. :) 73min, 6.08/mile

Well its been a while sense I logged any of my runs.  Guess I couldn't give away my secrets before and after the race.  It was a really fun race especially leading the first three miles of the race.  I thought I wasn't going to maintain that fast of a pace when nobody decided to go with me but decided to test out my body just to see what it could handle for my 1st half marathon and was 50 sec. ahead of goal time so I was very happy with that.  The only thing that wasn't fun was loosing to Nic again, no j/k he is a great runner and I just need to work on getting faster so I can catch him.  He actually helped me out a lot in the race in maintaining my race pace and pushing me to a faster finishing time then I wanted.  Well this week is almost up and if I finish it out right it should be my first 80 miler week, YES!  Well congrats to everyone that ran the race.  Hope you had as much fun as I did.  Good luck in the upcoming races.  Next one for me is Moab half anybody signed up to race?

I like 6 mile progressive runs starting out at just slower than MP and gradually winding to 10k effort for the last mile. I'll do these towards the end of a 15 miler or a 16-18 mile long run. And on hills also.

Your running is looking really good by the way. Congrats on your showing at the Canyonlands half recently.

Oh man what a week.  Ended on a really good run.  Ran up hobble creek canyon and had to turn around at 66mins30secs because of snow but it was still past the starting line of the half marathon, I think.  Came back in 57mins59sec.  I didn't start my run by the finish I started over by the fishing pond before the golf course.  According to the website that tracks my runs in was 9.79miles long but they don't measure vertical miles but still accurate enough for me.  Body was starting to shut down the last 2.5miles.  I guess be out all day at a track meet and then skipping lunch doesn't help.  Before the run I drank 20oz bottle of gatorade and a Cliff shot at the top that really helped out a ton.  Well the total running this week was 7hrs48mins22secs, 6.26/mile

Missed 2 days of running this week due to school finals and home work or I was just lazy and didn't find time in the day to squeeze in a run or wake up early you choose so the total time this week was 4:47:30, 6:24/Mile.  Need a good training partner up here in Orem.  Anybody know anybody training for marathons around 2:30 pace?  That would sure help out a lot in my training and hopefully there's if a I can keep up w/ them.  I am really going to pound the pavement in May to get ready for the Utah Valley Half.

Well sitting in the airport and just reflecting on the race and wishing it could have gone differently.  Read Glen Tucker's race report and got a lot of questions answered about the race.  Thanks Glen for letting me run with you for a little bit and making it enjoyable.  Wow, what an experience that I have never felt in all the running I have done in my life.  I am pretty happy for how I finished especially or how I felt after mile mark 11.  Well to go back to the beginning of the race I started out in a 5.39 mile and felt like I was doing well but I was leading the race which worried me a little.  After mile 2 I slowed down to let two other guys take it and I stepped in behind them.  Then after mile 5 one guy took off and I decided not follow and the other guy followed and at mile 6 two other guys caught me and I stayed w/ them for 5 miles and they eventually finished 2nd and 4th.  Half way through mile 11 my stomach dropped and I had to pull over and use the bathroom then again at mile 15.  Unfortunately at mile 11.5 it took a good 2 miles before I could find a restroom and slowed down to 6.30 just to keep myself together.  I tried to find some kind of a fighting spirit to finish the race as best I could but it took awhile to find a reason to finish as best as I could w/ what was happening to me.  I was in around 20th place after mile 15th and my friend that came w/ me almost caught me but he died after the bridge.  Getting frustrated I took off my jersey so I wouldn't get my nipples ripped off. Don't worry I put it back on the last mile.  So I just pressed on to finish the best I could.  I found out after I finished the race my timing chip to work after crossing the finish line, luckily I looked up as I finished and saw 2:43:xx which I think would put me in 12th or 13th.  My last mile was 6.01 and felt good about the finish.  Now I got to get the finish worked out so I can go to Boston and redeem myself.  It was definitely a learning experience and an enjoyable time beside all the chaffing if you now what I am talking about.

Good job on your debut marathon. It sounds like you will probably run a lot faster on your next one. The rain was brutal and I was chafed too. I think I saw you up ahead of me at around mile 19 but you pulled ahead at the end (I was 13th place). Keep at it and you should be in the 2:20s before too long.

Karl, nice rice even with a disappointing result. You will nail a great one, it just takes some time - and now you have learned a ton for the next one.

You know... if you put those in everyday, it is not that big of deal!

Hope the running is going well up there. Will we see you down here for any racing before track season?
